Rodent hygiene

Hygiene

Your pet’s hygiene is not to be overlooked once he has settled in properly. Here are a few tips to guide you through its health needs:

Teeth growth

Rodents’ teeth grow continuously. Living incaptivity they cannot look after their teeth by themselves. Therefore, you will need to put mineral blocks, wood or timber to gnaw or loofah* toys at his disposal so that his teeth can wear down. You can entertain him by alternating different colours and shapes.

Cage maintenance

Your pet needs a litter that will allow it to be dry as often as possible. High absorbency litters are the best to eliminate all humidity and moisture. Our Rody’Cob and Chambiose products prevent dust and moisture build-up in the cage.

Your pet’s welfare also requires a regular litter change. To prevent unpleasant odours, change the litter as often as possible by anticipating when to do so. The more absorbent the bedding, the less you will have to replace it. A healthy and comfortable environment will improve your pet’s quality of life immensely.

Our tip

Change the litter and water at the same time.

RodyCob

Rodent's health-care

Your pet’s hygiene is very important as so is it’s coat.
Furbearing animals need us to cleanse and look after their coats.

  • For an easy, quick and smooth clean you can use our rinse-free gel.
  • However for a thorough wash, use a special shampoo depending on the type of rodent you own and its breed.

Our Rody’Care cosmetics range offers a wide array of products, all useful to maintaining a healthy, shiny coat.
There also exists a variety of accessories for rodent coats such as detangling brushed or toothed combs.

Claw maintenance

Rodent’s claws will not wear down naturally when living in a cage since it is not their natural environment. You should therefore regularly check the length and state of his claws. If you wish to try cutting the claws yourself, make sure not to touch the vein inside the claw. If in doubt, ask your vet for some advice.

Treating your pet

Like mentioned in the “Games” section, when the weather is nice you can let your pet roam outside, so that he can make the most of the great outdoors, in a caged-run. If your pet is in the garden, remember to treat him against external parasites with an insect repellent. And if you have other animals with whom he could come into contact, be sure to treat your rodent as well as your other companions.
For additional information, ask your vet for further advice.
